On December 08, 2011, at approximately 4:58 pm, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to Stoneybrook Heights Apts, 512 Swadley Rd, #9, in reference to a stabbing.  Upon arrival officers learned that 62 yr old Freida Russell and 65 yr old Clifford Russell had both been stabbed.  Freida Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.  Although Clifford Russell had sustained a life-threatening stab wound to his neck, he was able to tell family members that his grandson, 20 yr old Cody Russell, same address, had attacked him and his wife then fled the scene on foot.  Clifford Russell was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery.

Johnson City Police officers, with the assistance of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, quickly set up a perimeter around the immediate area.  A short time later the suspect, Cody Russell, came walking through the parking lot in an attempt to get to a vehicle.  A Johnson City Police investigator identified Mr. Russell and took him into custody.

Cody Russell is charged with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.  He is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center.  An arraignment is scheduled for December 09, 2011, at 9:00 am.
