On Wednesday March 20th, 2013 at approximately 12:45 pm, officer of the Johnson City Police Department were dispatched to a shoplifter at 3111 Browns Mill Rd. Upon walking into the loss prevention office, responding officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the defendant. Defendant was read his Miranda rights immediately before any questions were asked. Defendant had initially come into the store to purchase an iPod shuffle to replace his old one. After purchasing it, defendant switched out his old one with the new and then returned it to get his money back. Because of the strong odor of marijuana, a consent search of the defendant found approximately 23 grams of marijuana in his left jacket pocket. Defendant also had $4,748 in his right jacket pocket, $4,650 of it was in fifty dollar bills. Christopher M Workman, D.O.B 05/25/1983, of 305 Delaware St, Johnson City, TN 37604 was arrested for Manuf/Del/Sell Controlled Substance Wit: Schedule VI and Theft of Property. He was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and will have a bond hearing set for 03/21/2013 at 1:30 pm.
