Felony Arrest

Identity Theft/False Report Arrest

9:30 a.m.

Officer Brady Higgins

Sgt. Hodges

On 5/17/17, officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to the Best Western Hotel on N Roan St, concerning a theft.  An employee of the hotel advised their cell phone had been stolen and there was video of the incident.  As officers were on scene, they located a female, identified as Amber Alvarez, F/W, 28 years of age, 170 Ruby Ave, Elizabethton, TN.  She gave misleading statements to the officers concerning the incident and gave a name of the involved male subject, later determined to be a false name.  A syringe containing an unknown controlled substance was located in her purse as well.  While speaking with the female, a male approached on foot and identified himself to officers.  Once the officers spoke with him and explained he was detained for further investigation, the male pushed an officer and attempted to flee on foot.  He was taken into custody at that time and the stolen phone recovered from his person.  Both subjects were taken to the Washington County Detention Center for booking.  Once at the jail, the officer was advised by jail staff that the male subject, identified as Jeffrey Jackson, M/W, 31 years of age, 276 Shenandoah Dr, Johnson City, had given the officers a false name and date of birth of a family member at the hotel, in order to avoid arrest for other outstanding warrants.  Mrs. Alvarez was charged with False Reporting, Theft of Property, Simple Possession and Drug Paraphernalia.  Mr. Jackson was charged with Identity Theft, Theft of Property and Resisting a Stop.  Both subjects have an arraignment on 05/18/17, in Washington County General Sessions Court.
